Dr. Zeina Tannous in the 8th Annual Celebration of ASLMS
We are extremely proud to announce that our Chair of Dermatology Department, Dr. Zeina Tannous, was the keynote speaker of the 8th annual celebration of ASLMS Women in Energy-Based Devices at the American Society of Lasers in Medicine and Surgery annual meeting in Phoenix, Arizona, the largest laser meeting in the world, on April 13, 2023. Dr. Tannous presented her philanthropy work at LAU, including the vascular birthmarks clinic and managing scars after Beirut explosion. Towards the end of her speech, she received a standing ovation and brought tears to the eyes of most, if not all, the attendees. A frequent comment from many attendees was that “it was the most inspirational speech they have ever heard”. She was able to represent LAU abroad in the best possible way.
She is an expert in lasers and leads the department at a referral center for vascular lesions. She receives hundreds of patients annually with birthmarks and believes that no patient should be denied medical care because of their financial status.
She has made it her top priority to secure proper solutions to provide adequate care to both Lebanese and refugees in need. She has tremendously reduced the cost of laser therapy and actively collaborates with different NGOs and generous donors to help fund the laser and medical treatment for the needy.
Apart from her philanthropic work with healing using lasers, she has been involved in the recovery mission after the BeirutPortExplosion. The thousands of people who survived were left with disfiguring scars, a constant and eternal reminder of that dreadful and terrifying event. Dr. Tannous played a vital role in alleviating the suffering of the survivors within all her capabilities.
She collaborated with different national and international NGOs and donors to help fund the laser scar treatment. She offered several sessions of laser treatment for their scars and followed them on a regular basis to provide them with the best possible cosmetic outcome and help them move forward.
We are very fortunate to have her leading our dermatology department, and we applaud her unwavering dedication to serving her community and improving the lives of those in need.
