Pharmacy
The pharmacy department at LAU Medical Center-Saint John’s Hospital (LAUMC-SJH) emulates the mission of the mission of the medical center and is “committed to excellence in patient care while pursuing high-quality teaching, research and innovation”. The pharmacy department prioritizes patient care. In parallel to safe medication distribution to the hospital, our team serves as members of the interprofessional health care teams on the inpatient wards. Our pharmacists serve as medication therapy experts, provide up to date evidence based medication, patient and family medication education on medication use and prepare high risk injectable medications using aseptic techniques. The department is committed to student pharmacist education and hands on experiential learning.
Our hospital pharmacists take pride in reviewing medication orders for appropriate dosing, duplicate therapy, drug interactions, contraindications, adverse effects, need for monitoring, review inpatient orders for appropriateness, and prepare high risk medications utilizing aseptic techniques.
The PGY1 pharmacy residency is a joint program at LAU School of Pharmacy and LAUMCSJH builds on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training. The PGY1 Pharmacy residency further develops and refines graduates’ competencies in clinical practice, education, research and pharmacy practice. The program encourages residents’ professional and leadership skills development in order to impact the profession of pharmacy. Our program is ASHP accredited.
